The Soul of the Original Dual-Manual Tape Replay Consoles
While the M-Tron Pro IV centers around the chromatic lead sounds of the iconic single-keyboard Mellotron M400, GForce M-Tron MkII celebrates the grand, dual-manual instruments that started the tape replay revolution: the 1963 Mellotron MkI/MkII and the Chamberlin Musicmaster.

Originally designed as the ultimate home entertainment instrument, the two-manual setup allowed players to trigger fully orchestrated rhythmic backings and moving chord accompaniments on the lower keyboard while performing expressive solo melodies—such as flutes, brass, strings, or guitars—on the upper keyboard.

Vintage Nostalgia Meets Modern Production Flexibility
M-Tron MkII bridges 1950s and 60s analog grit with modern digital workflow. Every tape bank has undergone sympathetic tape restoration, allowing you to synchronize historical rhythm loops and chord movements to your DAW tempo, transpose harmonic stations on the fly, modulate pitch, or engage the tape-brake to simulate pressing the rotating motor flywheel for dramatic tape slowdowns.

Tape Library & Manual Layout:

• Left Manual (Rhythm & Accompaniment Station):

  • 35-note keyboard section dedicated to triggering classic rhythm grooves and matching accompaniment chord patterns.
  • 66 selectable Rhythm & Accompaniment combinations covering Swing, Bossa Nova, Rhumba, Jazz Foxtrot, Marching Band, Polka, and Waltz styles.
  • Independent High-Pass / Low-Pass see-saw tone filters, volume balance, and panning.

• Right Manual (Lead & Hybrid Mode):

  • 35-note keyboard section for melodic lead instruments or secondary rhythm banks.
  • 66 Lead soundbanks featuring solo strings (Cello, Violins), woodwinds (Flutes, Clarinets), brass (Trumpets, Trombones), guitars, organs, and acoustic pianos.
  • Polyphonic AR envelope generator with velocity sensitivity and assignable aftertouch.

• Dual Rhythm / Accompaniment Engine:

  • Layer two independent rhythm banks across both manuals to create hybrid acoustic/tape rhythm sections.
  • Visual Chord Finder assistance tool to quickly identify and trigger matching accompaniment chords.

Performance & Processing Suite:

• Mechanical Tape Physics & Modulation:

  • Tape Brake: Route the modulation wheel to simulate physical tape slowdowns down to a dead stop.
  • Tape Rewind: Authentic 2-second tape return time simulation.
  • Tape Reverse & Half-Speed: Flip tape playback direction or drop lead sounds into half-speed octaves.
  • Key Parameter Matrix: Per-key adjustment of tape start position, tape detuning, individual note-on click loudness, and stereo panning.

• Master Effects Rack:

  • Reverb Unit: Dual selectable algorithms featuring Type I (Smooth Modern Reverb) and Type II (Authentic MkII Spring Reverb Tank).
  • Stereo Delay: Fully synchronizable delay with independent left/right time and feedback dials, plus ping-pong cross-feedback routing.
  • Master balance control to blend levels between the left and right manuals effortlessly.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

• Q: How can I play both manuals with two separate MIDI keyboards?
A: Open the MIDI settings panel in M-Tron MkII and assign Manual 1 (Left) to MIDI Channel 1, and Manual 2 (Right) to MIDI Channel 2.
• Q: Can I use an 88-key controller to play both manuals at once?
A: Yes, M-Tron MkII automatically maps both 35-note manuals across a single 88-key keyboard with a split point in the center.
• Q: Are the tapes looped continuously?
A: No, in keeping with genuine Mellotron MkII physics, the tapes are unlooped (lasting roughly 8 seconds) to deliver the authentic performance characteristics of the original instrument.
