Graphics Card (GPU): GPU with OpenGL 3.2+ or DirectX 11 support for smooth vector curve rendering
Hard Drive Space: ~200 MB free disk space for standalone executable, plugin binaries, and factory presets
Host Application: Any 64-bit VST or VST3 compatible DAW (Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, REAPER, Bitwig Studio)
An experimental additive synthesizer exploring quantum mechanics and acoustic physics. Colapso turns atomic emission data into evolving, living timbres that hover between musical pitch and raw natural phenomenon.
Periodic Table Emission Partials: Select from 22 chemical elements to define the overtone structure of each oscillator. Each element’s atomic spectral lines dictate the frequency and amplitude of up to 16 additive overtones per voice.
The Gabor Limit & Uncertainty Principle («Observation»): Audio cannot be simultaneously localized in time and frequency. The central «Observation» control lets you dial in whether a sound behaves as a continuous tonal wave or collapses into a discrete, rhythmic pulse train. Unobserved states introduce organic acoustic smearing and micro-fluctuations.
Polyphony & Voice Allocation: Up to 8 voices of true polyphony, with dedicated monophonic, unison, legato, and glissando modes featuring adjustable voice detune and stereo spread.
Triple Oscillator Configuration: 3 additive oscillators per voice, allowing compound elemental blends (e.g., Hydrogen + Iron + Xenon) with inter-oscillator transformation.
Comprehensive Modulation: 4 user-drawable multi-stage envelopes and 4 custom LFOs operating per voice, allowing every polyphonic note within a chord to evolve independently.
Nine Filter Circuits: State Variable Filters (SVF), classic ladder topologies, comb filters, and formant vowel filters with saturation drive and key-tracking.
User-Drawable Multi-Stage Envelopes (4 Units):
Construct custom curves by adding breakpoint nodes and bending line curvature.
Stages range from 1 ms to 8 seconds with flexible velocity scaling.
EG 1 hardwired to master amplifier; EG 2 pre-routed to main filter cutoff (both freely assignable to any parameter).
Custom Vector LFOs (4 Units):
Start from classic shapes (Sine, Triangle, Saw, Square, Sample & Hold) or draw custom freeform modulation curves.
Features Quantise for stepped sequencer playback, Smooth for rounded transitions, tempo sync, free-running modes, single-cycle (one-shot) trigger, and note-on retriggering (0.01 Hz to 40 Hz).
Dual Serial Effects & Master Bus Processor:
Two serial insert FX slots selectable from 8 algorithms: Chorus, Phaser, Stereo Delay, and Reverb.
Output bus includes a dedicated glue compressor to tame additive transients and dynamic peaks.
Full MIDI Learn, host tempo sync, and Ableton Link protocol integration.
Step-by-Step Deployment:
Host Preparation:
Close all running DAWs and audio editing software.
Run Installer:
Execute Setup.exe (71.60 MB) as Administrator (Right-click -> Run as administrator).
Select the desired components:
Standalone application
VST2 plugin (.dll) – specify your 64-bit VST2 directory if applicable
VST3 plugin (.vst3) – installs automatically to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
Complete the installation sequence.
Activation Status:
This distribution is pre-cured by r4e. No license file import, challenge-response code, or internet registration is required.
First Launch & Verification:
Launch Colapso Standalone or open your DAW, rescan your plugin library, and load the synthesizer onto an instrument track.
Manipulating the «Observation» Dial (Quantum Wave Collapse):
Load an elemental pad sound with high sustain.
Slowly rotate the Observation control from 100% (fully focused, precise harmonic pitch) toward 0% (temporal collapse).
As observation decreases, the sustained tones disintegrate into granular clicks and percussive wave bursts, illustrating the acoustic Gabor limit in real time.
Per-Voice Asynchronous Chord Movement:
Draw an irregular 4-point envelope on EG 3 with a slow attack and undulating decay.
Drag the modulation target icon from EG 3 to the Filter Cutoff or Element Morph parameter.
Because envelopes are calculated per voice, playing a staggered chord triggers independent modulation sweeps for each note, resulting in rich harmonic movement without requiring multiple synth instances.
Creating Resonant Vowel Pads with Formant Filtering:
Configure Oscillator 1 with a light gaseous element (e.g., Helium or Neon) and Oscillator 2 with a heavy metallic element (e.g., Lead or Mercury).
Select the Formant filter circuit, set resonance to 65%, and route an LFO set to Quantise mode to step through formant frequency bands synced to 1/8-note tempo intervals.
