In the second version, the original Lexicon PSP42 design was refined in terms of both sound accuracy and feature flexibility. In addition to the powerful tape saturation and variable sample rate delay line emulation algorithm that made the sound of the original PCM42 so unique, the second version adds even more accurate simulation of the hardware audio channel, allowing the user to quickly decide to what extent the original nature of the sound should be preserved. In addition to the legacy processing mode of the previous version, Lexicon PSP42 now offers three alternative modes:
Clean: untouched signal path without emulations
Lims: includes two original equipment optical limiters, one at the input and one just before A/D - the former affects dry and wet state signals, and the latter affects wet state signals and feedback signals.
Full: Includes emulation of not only limiters, but also original analog-to-digital converters in PCM 42 hardware, the nonlinear behavior of which added a unique sound turn.
