An authentic component-level circuit recreation of Peter Baxandall's original 1952 tone control network published in Wireless World. Unlike standard modern EQ emulations that place a static filter before a saturation stage, the R52 places the vacuum tube directly inside the active negative feedback loop, precisely modeling the interactive component values, source resistance, and amplifier load damping of the original hardware.
Unified Feedback Network: Bass and Treble controls operate as two interactive arms of a single feedback loop rather than isolated frequency bands. Boosting both shelves naturally recesses the midrange, while cutting both pushes mids forward.
Integrated Tube-in-Loop Topology: The valve is positioned inside the curve-generating loop itself. Input drive dictates valve presence, and boosting treble drives valve harmonics specifically within the boosted spectrum with no harsh clipping point.
Real-Time SCOPE Visualizer: Interactive display illustrating the precise phase and curve interactions between feedback arms as controls are adjusted.
Interactive Impedance Controls:
SOURCE: Variable source impedance from 0 Ω to 250 kΩ (marked with the original 1952 operating boundary up to 10 kΩ; default: 0 Ω).
LOAD: Selectable amplifier output damping into a fixed 15 Ω monitor load (OFF, 0.7, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, and 7.0 Ω; OFF provides complete stage bypass).
SHELF: Continuous interpolation between Baxandall's two original published high-frequency corner specifications.
Multi-Channel & Immersive Audio: Supports any channel configuration from mono up to multi-channel immersive formats, running an independent modeled valve circuit per channel.
Flexible Channel Routing: Stereo instances support Stereo, Mid, Side, Left, and Right channel modes, complete with an ISOL solo audition function.
Selectable Circuit Topologies:
1952: The original historical design featuring the SP61 pentode in the active loop.
1957: The updated revision based on the ECC81 (12AT7) dual-triode valve.
1957 ALT: The 1957 circuit topology driven by the SP61 pentode.
AMP Path:
Engages the dedicated amplifier in the LOAD path (requires LOAD enabled; available in Mono/Stereo, excluded in Mid, Side, L, R modes).
Operates in real-time up to 96 kHz. At project sample rates above 96 kHz, the AMP path automatically utilizes a freeze/render/export mode while routing standard LOAD for live monitoring.
Preserved across user presets, DAW sessions, and A/B comparison slots.
Internal Processing: Pure 64-bit floating-point precision for bit-identical offline bounces across matching sessions.
Automatic Oversampling: Continuously active linear-phase oversampling that automatically scales to match session sample rates.
Latency & PDC Reporting:
44.1 kHz / 48 kHz: 91 samples (~2 ms)
88.2 kHz / 96 kHz: 71 samples
176.4 kHz / 192 kHz: 0 samples
Fully reported to host DAW for automatic plugin delay compensation (PDC).
True Bit-Accurate Bypass: Dedicated IN/OUT processor delivers click-free, bit-transparent throughput while matching active latency to eliminate phase offsets during A/B evaluation.
Automation Parameters: Fully automatable Bass, Treble, Shelf, Source Impedance, Load, Input (dB), Output (dB), and In/Out. (Circuit Version, Matching, and Channel Mode are stored with the session file).
