Description: reFX Rippler is a software synthesizer built around physical/modal modeling plus subtractive synthesis, designed to emulate acoustic instruments and create hybrid experimental sounds. It was released by reFX in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows, with an introductory price of $99 and 441 factory presets.
Modal synthesis, reimagined
Rippler offers state-of-the-art modal synthesis using techniques such as bidirectional energy coupling combined with classical subtractive synthesis involving two oscillators and two filters.
At its core, Rippler uses resonator units to reproduce the sound of various instruments without the use of samples. Thanks to several modulated parameters, it can produce a variety of sounds — from pads and strings to percussion and plucked instruments.
Modulations are everywhere
Each parameter can be modulated by several sources, such as envelopes and low-frequency oscillators.
A simple modulation system with drag-and-drop functionality makes it easy to create complex, time-varying sounds. Form any connection to modulate with custom response curves with Mod Mapping — turn linear modulation into exponential, S-shaped, or stepwise to precisely control the effect of each source on the endpoint.
Modular chain of effects
13 effects on the master bus and 12 on each layer —, all in a fully modular chain.
Combine effects in any order to create unique sound textures — from subtle warmth to complete destruction.
Two-layer architecture
Two independent synthesis layers with parallel and series routing of resonators.
Bidirectional energy transfer between resonators creates rich, changing timbres that naturally respond to your play.
MPE and Aftertouch
Revive your performance with expression and dynamic control.
Full MPE support means that each note can have its own band, pressure and slide.
Microsetting and MTS
Upload Scala .scl or.kbm files or use MTS Client to tune Rippler to different keys.
Key tracking can also be compressed, extended, or reassigned for unique audio capabilities.
Audio input
Sidechain audio directly into the resonators according to the notes you play.
Transform any sound into a resonant instrument for creative sound design.
Manual mode
Custom tuning with instant morphing for experimental sound design.
Create custom resonator configurations and change them in real time.
12 acoustic models
Preconfigured models of acoustic instruments, created with mathematical formulas and the finite element method, produce realistic but synthesized and flexible sounds.
