Synapse Audio DUNE 3 is positioned as a flagship software synthesizer built around a highly scalable hybrid synthesis engine. Its architecture combines conventional virtual-analog oscillators with wavetable and FM synthesis, while its stacked oscillator design allows extremely dense unison sounds without requiring separate synthesizer layers. DUNE 3 also retains compatibility with DUNE 2 patches and includes the DUNE 2 factory library, contributing to a factory collection of more than 1,000 patches.

The instrument is particularly suited to electronic production where complex modulation, wide stereo imaging and highly animated oscillator structures are important. Its wavetable editor supports waveform creation through drawing, segments, partial editing and formulas, while WAV import/export provides an additional route for custom sound design. Since v3.4, oscillator 3 can also load WAV files, including 16-, 24- and 32-bit files from 44.1 to 192 kHz.

Synapse Audio notes that DUNE 3 uses computationally intensive DSP and benefits substantially from a modern multicore CPU. The manual also recommends sensible audio-buffer settings; extremely low buffers can reduce the benefit of its multithreaded processing.

Compatible DAWs

DUNE 3 can be used in compatible 64-bit hosts supporting the relevant plugin format, including major Windows DAWs such as Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One, FL Studio and Pro Tools. AAX operation requires Pro Tools 11 or later.

NKS

DUNE 3 supports Native Instruments NKS and is compatible with Maschine and Komplete Kontrol S-Series hardware.

DUNE 3 v3.6.2 — Installation & Activation

1. Run Setup DUNE 3 v3.6.2.
2. Open DUNE 3 (a window will appear asking for a serial).
3. Launch Keygen, select DUNE 3 - Full License in Keygen and click the Generate button.
4. Copy the serial and paste it into the plugin window to continue working (activation will begin - click Offline Activation).
5. Copy the Challenge Code from the Activator and paste it into the keygen (click Generate Response Code).
6. Copy the Response Code and paste it into the activator.
7. Click OK and enjoy!

Troubleshooting

DUNE 3 does not appear in the DAW

• Verify that the correct VST2/VST3 location was installed.
• Confirm that the DAW is running in 64-bit mode.
• Perform a complete plugin rescan.
• Check whether the plugin was accidentally installed into a folder that the DAW does not scan.

VST3 loads but crashes

• Update the DAW to a current compatible release.
• Remove duplicate/older DUNE installations from the scan paths.
• Rescan the VST3 directory.
• Check whether an old DUNE project is referencing a previous plugin build.

AAX is missing from Pro Tools

• Confirm that Pro Tools is 64-bit.
• Verify that the AAX component was installed.
• Pro Tools 11 or newer is required for DUNE 3 AAX.

High CPU usage

• Increase the audio buffer size.
• Avoid unnecessarily low buffer settings when running many DUNE instances.
• Freeze/bounce tracks containing particularly complex patches.
• Reduce polyphony or processor-intensive modulation/effects where practical.

Presets are missing

• Verify that the factory content was installed correctly.
• Avoid deleting DUNE's user-data/content directories during cleanup unless you have backed up custom patches.
• Rescan/restart the DAW after reinstalling the content.
