RAM: 4 GB RAM minimum (8 GB or more recommended when hosting heavy VST instruments)
Hard Drive: 1.5 GB available storage space for core library and sound content
Display Resolution: 1280 x 800 minimum (Scalable vector UI with High-DPI support)
Host Application: 64-bit VST2, VST3, or AAX compatible Digital Audio Workstation, or Standalone execution
A music theory and composition suite by Scaler Music that bridges harmonic analysis, intuitive songwriting, and multi-track orchestration into a unified environment.
Standalone & DAW Operation: Functions as a standalone desktop music lab (SAL) without opening a DAW, or as an integrated MIDI FX / audio-instrument plugin within any major host.
Internal VST Hosting: Host third-party virtual instruments and audio/MIDI effect plugins directly inside Scaler 3 on chord and phrase lanes.
Multi-Lane Arrange Timeline: Dedicated, synchronized tracks for Chords, Melodies, Basslines, and Phrasing with independent clip parameters and loop regions.
Harmonic Discovery & Modulation:
Explore Page: Browse compatible and unconventional chord groupings categorized by emotional timbre (Dark, Bright, Neutral) beyond rigid scale limits.
Colors Page: Direct access to modal interchange, chord extensions, parallel harmony, and negative harmony voicings.
Modulation Pathways: Step-by-step navigational routes including secondary dominants, mediant relationships, and Neo-Riemannian cyclic transformations.
Motions Engine: Curated expressive phrases, arpeggios, and rhythmic performances tagged by mood and performance intensity.
Intelligent Voice Leading & Divisi: Automatic voice grouping, guitar/piano fretboard voicings, and divisi polyphonic splitting across different external MIDI outputs or plugins.
Live Sync Engine: Synchronize chord sequences, scales, and song structures across multiple active instances of Scaler 3 across your project.
Audio & MIDI Detection: Analyze incoming polyphonic audio files or live MIDI keyboard input to detect chords, root keys, and corresponding modal scales.
The Arrange Page (Multi-Track Timeline):
Synchronized timeline with dedicated lanes for Chords, Melody, Bass, and Phrases.
Independent clip slicing, velocity customization, scale-constrained quantization, and clip rotation.
Bass Follow track automatically derives and updates root-note basslines as chords shift.
Performance Control & Mapping:
Bind to Keyboard: Trigger complex multi-note chord voicings and Motions using single keys.
Multi-Bind: Split keyboard zones to trigger chord progressions on the left hand while driving arpeggiated melodic motifs on the right.
Keys Lock: Quantizes incoming MIDI keyboard playing to match only valid chord tones, scale notes, or melodic extensions.
Built-in Sound Engine:
Includes over 50 internal acoustic and synthetic presets (grand pianos, analog synths, orchestral strings) for drafting without loading external samplers.
Sketch Pad:
Compare and contrast up to 7 distinct chord progression alternatives side-by-side before committing them to the main arrangement.
MIDI Editor & Export Fixes:
Fixed a display bug in the MIDI editor that caused notes to go missing, chords to render misaligned, or unexpected blank gaps to precede chord blocks.
Exporting MIDI sequences now automatically trims and suppresses leading empty spaces.
Keys Lock & MIDI Routing:
Resolved a note-routing defect in Keys Lock ("Chords" and "Chord Extensions" modes) where triggering notes at or below C3 caused the first chord voice to play an octave too low.
Arrangement, Colors & Chord Behaviors:
Fixed an issue where customized chord modifiers failed to persist across project reload.
Corrected a bug on the "Colors" page that occasionally rendered inaccurate substitute chord names.
Resolved an issue where chord coloration failed to update dynamically to match newly selected keys until the plugin was restarted.
Stability & Platform Maintenance:
Fixed a critical crash under Windows 11 triggered when saving user preset files directly to external hard drives.
Implemented core memory handling optimizations to prevent unexpected host terminates during intense VST hosting sessions.
Binary Architecture: Native 64-bit Windows Standalone (.exe), VST2, VST3, and AAX Native
MIDI Routing: Full internal/external MIDI routing with 16-channel multi-out support
Audio Resolution: 32-bit / 64-bit floating-point processing up to 192 kHz
